It was after 7 years of renovating and remodeling homes in Indianapolis that the mother-daughter duo got contacted by HGTV for a reality series. In 2008, Karen and Mina started Two Chicks and a Hammer, and they never looked back. At the time, she didn’t know what she wanted to do with her life but found her true calling when she purchased her first house for $37000 and renovated it with mom Karen. Mina graduated from Indiana University and started working as a waitress to pay the bills. She is currently happily married to Roger, her fourth husband. Karen divorced Mina’s father and remarried twice before finding her current spouse. Karen also likes using art from local artists to personalize spaces and loves adding green spaces wherever she can. Apart from this, she also brings legal counsel and community mindfulness to the team. Karen is known for her hippie flair and usually focuses on the repurposing of old furniture and DIYs that they do for any remodel project they have going on. She gave up a career in law to start a house renovation business with her daughter Mina. They fight, make up, and always support one another. So, yes, Mina and Tad are biological siblings (technically half-siblings), and they do share a father.
